HANOI / JAKARTA - The great supply-chain rebalancing of the 2020s is rewriting Asia's industrial map. Multi-national OEMs from automotive to electronics are opening plants across Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand, drawn by competitive labour, trade agreements and growing domestic demand. Economists call it the "China-plus-one" strategy - and for suppliers of transmission components, it is a once-in-a-decade opening.
Market intelligence confirms the shift. In Vietnam, demand for drop-forged conveyor chain is climbing +22.5% with an S-level blue-ocean rating; across the region, agricultural chain demand is up +18.5% (also S-level), driven by Vietnam, Myanmar and Thailand's rice and sugarcane belts. Even the region's giant two-wheeler economy - Indonesia alone puts 7 million new motorcycles on the road every year - keeps motorcycle chain demand at +8.2% growth with massive volume.
Three engines, one supply chain
1. New assembly plants. Thailand and Indonesia's automotive clusters (Toyota, Honda, BYD EV plants) are pulling F-series and M-series conveyor chains for body assembly and paint lines. Vietnam's emerging electronics corridor adds demand for precision double-pitch chains in component handling.
2. Agricultural mechanization. Vietnam and Myanmar are motorizing rice harvesting; Indonesia's vast sugar estates need S-series cane harvester chains. The region's combine harvester fleet is doubling every five years.
3. The two-wheeler economy. Jakarta to Manila, motorcycles are the transport backbone. High-humidity coastal cities demand chains that survive salt air - and 428H drive chains with nickel-plated plates are the workhorse of the region.
